　　After the Preliminary Eve, people begin preparing for the coming New Year. This is called "Seeing the New Year in".

　　Store owners are busy then as everybody goes out to purchase necessities for the New Year. Materials not only include edible oil, rice, flour, chicken, duck, fish and meat, but also fruit, candies and kinds of nuts. What's more, various decorations, new clothes and shoes for the children as well as gifts for the elderly, friends and relatives, are all on the list of purchasing.

　　Before the New Year comes, the people completely clean the indoors and outdoors of their homes as well as their clothes, bedclothes and all their utensils.

　　Then people begin decorating their clean rooms featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity. All the door panels will be pasted with Spring Festival couplets, highlighting Chinese calligraphy with black characters on red paper. The content varies from house owners' wishes for a bright future to good luck for the New Year. Also, pictures of the god of doors and wealth will be posted on front doors to ward off evil spirits and welcome peace and abundance.

　　At the beginning of the month three, the sun is bright. Dad took us to the North Gate Square to watch the spring festival performance.

　　一到那里，演出已經(jīng)開始了。我們的腳底像裝了馬達(dá)似的跑向擁擠的人群，坐在座位上全神貫注地看了起來。節(jié)目可精彩了，有悠揚(yáng)的歌聲，令人陶醉其中，有優(yōu)美的舞姿，令人贊不絕口，有滑稽有趣的小品，令人捧腹大笑，還有一群群活潑可愛的小朋友表演的惟妙惟肖，臺(tái)下鼓起了一陣陣熱烈的掌聲。

　　As soon as there was there, the performance had begun. The bottom of our feet, like a motor, ran toward the crowds, sitting in their seats and looking at them. The program can be wonderful, with melodious songs, intoxicated with the beautiful dance, full of praise, a funny comedy, hilarious, and small groups of friends lively show vivid, under his warm applause.

　　時(shí)間就像小馬車一樣“篤篤篤”地開過去，春節(jié)文藝演出結(jié)束了。我們就去廣場(chǎng)的'對(duì)面玩沙子了，那里有很多小朋友，他們有的用鏟子，有的用罐子，還有的用推車，玩得可開心了。

　　Time is like a pony car "Du Du Du" opened in the past, the spring festival performances ended. We went to the opposite side of the square to play sand. There were many children. Some of them had fun using shovels, some cans and carts.

This worry is fairly unnecessary. Why ？ One reason lies that Christmas only affects Christians，college students and joint-venture workers. Another reason is that Christmas is mostly celebrated in cities. Few people in countryside show extreme interest in this exotic（帶有異國(guó)情調(diào)的） festival. By contrast，the Spring Festival is the most influential traditional festival in every family.

　　I think，it is natural that with increasing exchanges with the West，a lot of Western holidays have been gradually introduced into China. For us Chinese we should never neglect or even

　　discard our own traditional festivals. For centuries Chinese have observed this traditional holiday to welcome the beginning of a new year. And we will treasure the Spring Festival forever.
