The Discomfort of Silence
Many Americans find silence uncomfortable. They will murmur on to fill any quietness if it extends for more than a moment. Students often study with their radios singing;housewives leave televisions on for the companionship of sound even though they may be working in some other room. If you are silent for long periods, they will do their best to draw you out or will ask if you feel all right or if there is anything that they can do to help you. Sometimes silence can be puzzling, however; if Americans disagree with what you are saying, many of them will remain quiet. This may not suggest agreement; often it only means that they consider it impolite to argue further.
To establish a good interpersonal relationship 建立良好人際關(guān)系
Friends are our treasures. A good friend is someone that lets us be ourselves and hopefully encourages us to be the best part of ourselves. How many times have they shared the joys and sorrows together with us? How many times have they offered help to us when we’re in need? In fact, without a friend, nothing much seems enjoyable.
Our parents should also be our closest friends. The relationship between parents and children has great influence on the life of both sides.
It is the teachers who give us knowledge, develop our ability, and put wings on us, with which we can fly towards our ideals.
Just as a proverb says, “A close neighbor is better than a distant relative.”
We have to be honest with others and should always say what we mean. Lies will surely make people stay far away from us in the long run.
We have to be polite and modest enough. If we are proud or rude in public, we can hardly win others’ respect, not to mention “friendship”.
無(wú)私:We must not be selfish. We should learn how to show concern for others.
有價(jià)值:We need to be valuable to the person we want to be friends with. We have to have something to offer other people, something of value which they are prepared to exchange for what they can offer.
Introduce yourself and talk to others so that they will know more about you. As your communication goes further, you’re sure to find much in common.
Attend parties, sports events and special gatherings. In this way you and others will know more about each other.
Don’t be too shy. Voice your opinions so that others will know you are a person of thought.
Make full use of your passion and kindness to bridge the gap between you and others.
You might be a bit shy in the new surroundings.
You might be a sensitive person and worry too much about what people think of you.
You might be too silent. However, silence only makes matters worse.
Try to avoid quarrels. Discuss and negotiate with your friends when your opinions differ.
善于傾聽(tīng):Be a good listener while your friends are talking. Listening contributes to building up excellent relationships between people.
Be sincere to your friends, especially when you think they’re doing something wrong.
Be ready to help your friends whenever they’re in need.
You might be a bit shy in such new surroundings;提出的建議有:Silence only makes matters worse. Be brave and make full use of your passion and kindness to bridge the gap between us. As the communication between us goes further, we’re sure to find much in common;你具體的打算可以是:I will take you with me when activities are planned,等等。
Information explosion
Ways to Get Over Information Explosion As a popular saying goes, "A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention." Nowadays we are in an era of information explosion. More and more people complain that they are lost in the information age. Admittedly, no one can deny the fact that the new information age has brought us so much convenience that we are allowed to get plenty of information just with a simple click sitting in front of the computers. Nevertheless we are also confused, annoyed, distracted and upset by an incredibly large quantity of information. For example, when searching for something online, people are easily misguided by irrelevant information and forget their original plan. Besides, some information often turns out to be useless. Therefore, it may be time-consuming and troublesome to search information online. Then what can we do to avoid being distracted by irrelevant information? Here are some useful tips: Firstly, make a list of what you really want before your searching. You can avoid some appealing, yet irrelevant information by this way. Then, find some credible and professional sources or websites and then save and categorize them. In this case, you can easily leave some advertisements and useless information behind.

Then we will do some cleaning and washing for them with the help of the nurses. As some old people feel lonely. We may chat with them about their old days, changes of our city, or anything they are interested in. We may also give them some performanees: singing, daneing, and so on. On Dating Shows
At present, dating shows have been very popular inpeople’s lives. No matter how busy the people are, they will grasp any chancesto watch this kind of shows as much as possible. As the time elapses, a growingnumber of dating shows have appeared on television.
Many factors account for this phenomenon. To beginwith, these shows provide a chance for the single to search for their dates sothat they think that they have more opportunities to break away from the singleidentities and even get married. Furthermore, some people are on account ofamusement to watch this kind of shows. They will feel funny and happy whenwatching others dating. Last but not least, the funny form and the relaxatmosphere of these shows have also made a great contribution to its audienceratings.
However, for my part, I advocate that these datingshows should be restricted to some extent. Some people who have dated in these showsuse the artificial identities to cheat others. In addition, these shows havebrought some bad impacts on our national spirits because it advocatesmaterialism in some way. Therefore, to avoid these problems, some actionsshould be taken to restrict these shows.

1. Failure and Success
3.結(jié)論。
Failure is a common thing in one's life. Almost everyone experiences failure in his life. When one fails in his attempt in doing something, he often feels upset. Some
people may yield to failure and flinch from it. But others will stick to and achieve the final success.
Success is what everyone expects. It may lead to fame and glory. When one
succeeds in doing something, he gets so excited that he often neglects all the
unsuccessful at tempts he has done.
As the old saying goes, "Failure teaches success." It is true that failure is an
important factor toward success. The way to success is full of various difficulties and obstacles. Many important inventions or discoveries were achieved after hundreds of failure. And only those successes which have been achieved after many failures are really valuable and praiseworthy.
2. My View on Double BA Degree
1
Recently it has become a common phenomenon for college students to have two majors at the same time. In this way, they can get double BA degrees when they graduate from the university several years later.
Although it may bring unfavorable consequences, we can be sure to conclude
that this practice is favorable on the whole. To begin with, most students will become more hardworking and efficient in order to finish the learning tasks satisfactorily. Moreover, with two degrees at hand after graduation, they will stand a better chance in the job market full of fierce competition. In the third place, as for today's university students, tuition and fees are becoming more and more expensive. If they can make achievements in study at school and find a satisfactory job afterwards, it will not be a big problem.
Weighing the pros and cons of such a new trend, we can naturally arrive at the
conclusion that it is beneficial and rewarding. This system not only compels students to work hard, but also prepares them for the coming competition.

3. Opening Psychological Courses
Recently more and more educator and common citizens suggest that universities colleges open more courses which are helpful for students' psychological health. Personally, I fully agree with their proposal for the following reasons.
On the one hand, the ever-increasing pressure of study at the moment and
job-hunting in the future may lead to many psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and even despair, and the psychological courses open a door for
communication and relaxation. On the other hand, such courses can teach students how to regulate feelings and emotions under different situations, which is a good preparation for the future life in the complex social network. Finally, these courses also introduce good habits which are conducive to mental and psychological health. To be mature and qualified citizens in the society, students have to do more than study hard.
In a word, I warmly welcome the establishment of psychological courses in
universities. In my mind, they are good for students' psychological development.

4. Advantages and Disadvantages of Electronic Dictionary
The discussion about electronic dictionaries has never stopped in the past few
years. Let's have a look at its advantages and disadvantages before drawing the final conclusion.
The biggest advantage of an electronic dictionary is its convenience. Whenever
you meet new words or expressions, you can know the meaning quickly. What's more, with the development of science and technology, electronic dictionaries are becoming more and more advanced: they can pronounce the words clearly, provide sample
sentences to illustrate word usage and store difficult words for special memorization. Last but by no means the least, electronic dictionaries are becoming cheaper and cheaper, and more and more students can afford them.
However, the negative effects are also obvious. To begin with, some students
rely too much on the electronic dictionary—they never put their heart into learning new words and expressions. In the second place, some explanations are neither
complete nor accurate, which are quite misleading. Finally, new technical inventions do not necessarily lead to progress in learning. Diligence is always the decisive factor, because "there is no royal road to learning".
Up until now, we can see it clearly that an electronic dictionary is not beneficial or harmful in itself. The key lies in the user—so long as we can make proper use of it, it can be most helpful to us in many respects.
第三段第一點(diǎn)中的rely too much on表示“過(guò)分依賴”;put one's heart into doing sth.
5. Teenagers' Studying Abroad
Recently it seems that among the students who choose to study abroad, there are more and more-teenagers who study in high schools or even elementary schools. Many people, especially the parents, think it will certainly do good to their chidren because the independent life will make them learn confidence and perseverance. Moreover, the quality of overseas education is often higher, thus the child stands a better chance of entering a better university and getting a better job in the future.
After careful consideration, I have to say the above view is more than biased. On the one hand, early independent life is not necessarily good, if the child cannot receive proper guidance and tender care from both teachers and parents. On the other hand, the educational quality is also a question—too many foreign schools aim at earning money. When the children come back, who can guarantee that they can adapt to the fierce competition here
We can see clearly that although teenagers' studying abroad may bring favorable results, there are still a lot to worry about. It seems necessary for young students to make a careful investigation before going abroad.

第一段指出當(dāng)前某種普遍的做法,之后分兩點(diǎn)闡述人們支持這種做法的原因;
第一段第三句中的stand a better chance of表示“有更好的機(jī)會(huì)做某事”。

there are more and more smoker now.they think of smoking as part of their lives.and often, they even smoke in the hospital or in the carriages where smoking is not allowed definitely, never considering the feelings of others.
i think we shoud prevent them from smoking.because,it will do harm to both themselves and the persons around.
as we know, talking loudly while eating is also a bad habit like smoking.sometimes,my classmates eat out together.to epress their ecitement, they would kid each other and then laugh loudly, though some others also having a dinner at the same place have epressed their bitterness and complaint.
in my opinion, having a dinner party can of couse reinforces the friendship among the friends.but it wont be forgoten that we shouldnt lay others pain aside, while enjoying ourselves.
other than those mentioned above,it sometimes could endanger ourlives crossing the street with a heavy traffic without paying enough attitions on lights.we can often see the scene where many policeman are solving a traffic accident and some persons have been deadlaying on the ground.thats too sad to see for us.but,it can be prevented before originally!
facing these bad habits, what can we do?in my opinion,on one hand, itsnecessary to persuade others not to continue their"hobby";and on the other hand,we should set an eample to others, and never have a try.

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when he starts his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in the big cities. To them, big cities mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation.
But some other graduates want to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier.
As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

My best friend is Mary. She lives in a tall building. She lives on the fifth floor.
Everyday she takes the lift up and down. She is twelve years old. She is tall and thin. She has short black hair, two big eyes and a small mouth.
She is very cute. I like playing with her. We are in the same class. I like to read books but she likes playing games. She likes to eat popcorn and ice creams. I like them, too. Her favourite food is fish, so she is clever.
She loves her cat. She often plays with her. The cat likes Mary, too. They are cute.
