The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live in iamen.
In iamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only follow the common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique custom which is only practiced in iamen, that is “Bo Bing”.
“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all iamen people play during this festival. Usually family members or close friends get together around a table with a big round bowl in the middle and si dices in the bowl. We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get ecited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.
In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited our foreign friends to come to our home to celebrate the Festival together. They have two children who are younger than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we kids played “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share with our guests as their prizes.They enjoyed the game and our get-together very much.
The literal translation of “Bo Bing” is “mooncake gambling.” But actually it is not gambling, at least our family never plays it that way. For us, it is more an occasion of happy sharing and getting-together. This is why iamen’s Mid-Autumn Festival has become my favorite festival in the year.

it dates back to a hot summer at my age of 13.i was taking summer vacation at home by watching tv every day. one day, my mom suggested me to take swimming lessons so as to enrich the holidays. i took the great idea on hearing it. because i was fond of water which brought a sense of spirituality. that moment, i could not help imaging myself swimming in a big swimming pool. consequently, we got in touch with a coach in no time and i was told that the class should be arranged to begin from the next day.
so there came my first time to stand by a swimming pool the following day. once again did the water charm me.
while, no sooner had i forced my body down to the water than all the pleasure was instead by fear. the fact was far from interesting. i just felt like being swallowed by the water. seeing this，the coach spoke to me，“don’t be afraid ，boy. the swim ring you are wearing will keep you in a safe situation what you need to do is just to believe in yourself and move your arms as well as your legs”. after that, i tried to calm myself down and did as the coach had said. as a result，the movement of my whole body in the water inspired me and i found myself more and more skilled . lots of joy followed it and last for a whole day. when another day had passed, i was required to learn swimming stroke without a swim ring. although fear caught up with me again, i had a clear acknowledge that it was my choice and i ought to have it done efore, i took my responsibility. of cource, life is full of uncertain. i had failed as many times as i had made attempts. it did matter. i kept trying and practice, in addition to learning from failure. as a result, i made it after several day.
now, when i occasionally go to swim in the swimming pool in our campus, i will naturally recall this Unforgettable experience and what it have taught me. that is “l(fā)earn to fail, or fail to learn” and the courage to face failure. for me courage does not means no to be afraid. it means you holdfear in your heart, but still take actions to overcome it.
